Once you do, you'll never go back to store-bought. These DIY versions are easy, safe, effective, affordable and so much better for our planet. You probably already have the supplies on hand!
DIY Spray Hand Sanitizer
Based on recommendations from World Health Organization
- 12 ounces isopropyl alcohol
- 2 teaspoons glycerol or glycerin
- 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide
- 3 ounces distilled water
Mix the alcohol and glycerol together, stirring well. Add in the hydrogen peroxide and distilled water and stir to combine. Transfer solution to individual spray bottles and store any excess in a glass container in a cool, dark place. Pro tip: Adding 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil will give it a lasting fragrance!
DIY Reusable Disinfecting Wipes
- 2 cups rubbing alcohol (at least 70% alcohol)
- 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
- 1-2 clean t-shirts ready to be recycled
Cut the t-shirts into small squares (5 or 6 inches works well), discarding the seams and necklines. Fold or roll each square. Mix the alcohol and dish soap together in a large glass jar or container and add the cloth squares to the jar and swirl until all of the cloths are saturated. Used cloths can go right into the washing machine and be reused again and again.
DIY Foaming Hand Soap
- 3 tablespoons pure castile liquid soap
- 1 tablespoon glycerol or fractionated coconut oil
- tap water
Add the liquid soap and glycerol or oil to an empty foaming hand soap dispenser (reuse an empty one!). Fill the remainder of the container with tap water and affix the top. Give it a few gentle shakes or swirls and it's ready to use!
